Four oil drilling “islands” sit ominously off the coast of Long Beach, California, tapping in to the coastal Wilmington Oil Fields. Decorated with palm trees, hotel facades and fountains, from the shore the islands are disguised to look like ritzy vacation destinations. Alchemical Archeology investigates the somewhat invisible, yet significant, impacts of offshore drilling in Southern California.
